Report by Declan Coutts
Weakened by lack of numbers Dyce RFC travelled up to league leaders Peterhead in what was always going to be a challenging game. Despite starting with only 13 men it was Dyce who started the brightest. Stand in fly half Duncan Scott charging through for the first try of the game. However the lack of numbers began to show as Peterhead made their extra men count, running in a number of tries before half time.
Graciously, Peterhead loaned Dyce an extra man in order to even up the front row in the scrum, however it did little to stop the constant waves of Peterhead attack. A range of mistakes from Dyce didn’t help, especially resident pretty boy Declan Coutts playing a blind off load to the opposing team on his own 5 metre line.
In the second half Dyce put in a spirited performance featuring a cameo at 9 from the coach Guy Gibson. And despite adding a second try through a charging run from Duncan Scott the score line was too far for Dyce to catch. A man of the match performance from Callum Robertson (SNAP Sponsorship), in a game which seen him start in the front row and end the game filling in at fullback, still wasn’t enough.
Despite a stronger performance in defence during the second half, Dyce were unable to build on Duncan’s two tries and must now put this game behind them and move on with the rest of the season. A good effort from the boys that did go up but playing against a full squad and bench, it’s always going to be an uphill task.
