Fierce rivalry reignited for home Huntly clash
The green and gold jerseys of Huntly RFC make the short trip to Dyce on Saturday in gameweek 16 for what is sure to be another ding dong battle. With a fierce rivalry, the match will surely have to go some way to surpass the action from the last time the two sides met earlier in the season, when two red cards and a yellow were shown as Huntly finished the match with 13 players.
Having snatched defeat from the jaws of victory last time out against Fraserburgh (19-13), the home team will be looking to capitalise on an extra week’s rest over their counterparts. Welcoming the return of key players from injury and unavailability, Dyce still have more than 10 on the sideslines, and will be seeking a strong start to the game. Having seemingly fixed their early season set-piece struggles, the forwards will look to assert their dominance and control the pace of the game.
Coach Guy Gibson commented, “Dyce are keen to exert the building confidence and skill levels after a disappointing and scrappy first outing last time against Huntly. Traditionally a hard and physical match up, Dyce will look to get over the gain line with a strong returning centre partnership and experienced backline and half back. The forward pack will seek to continue dominating at the set piece. This weekend is [Dyce’s] chance to not be the ‘much improved’ team, but the winning team.”
Huntly, who have played three times in 2018, beat Inverness Craig Dunain in mid-February, underlining the danger they can cause when playing in top gear. With a comfortable mid-table finish likely, finding a solution to their inconsistent league form seems to be their main focus and motivation. A 5-45 home loss to North Police Scotland last week sees them having more recent competitive game time compare to their hosts.
Saturday’s KO is scheduled for 3pm and the club welcomes all to support from the sidelines to cheer Dyce on. Score updates can be found through YouScore on the Ultimate rugby app and via twitter.
