Eagles fitness puts Dyce to the sword.

An optimistic Dyce RFC made the two hour journey to Kinloss on Saturday morning with the expectation of making a statement at the beginning of the new season following an encouraging preseason. With a hefty crowd cheering the Kinloss team onto the park, the scene was set for the start of the 2017-18 campaign.

Despite missing some key players, the opening exchanges were even before the hosts broke the deadlock playing expansive rugby after making gains round the fringes. The first points of the game came from a Kinloss penalty kick on the 20 minute mark. Hard yards were won by the Army tight five before the Eagles backs butchered chances galore with knock ons and forward passes around the Dyce 22'. Whilst the Dyce scrum had the Eagles going backwards at a rate of knots, it was the men in red who made strides going forwards as their hard running lines and offloading game continued to break the gain line. Tries were scored and the game looked to be comfortable for the Sappers at half time.

Despite trying to regroup after the interval it was the Eagles who stretched their advantage at the beginning of the second half; the Army team kicking on and rattling in four tries within 10 minutes of the restart due to some sloppy Dyce tackling. The powerful Eagles locks and backrowers combined galloping line breaks with deft offloads from the kick offs to setup tries as the game moved further away from the visitors.

A period of poor discipline from the Kinloss men went unpunished in the middle part of the second half as Dyce struggled to maintain possession despite earning a host of penalties. As Dyce began to tire and substitutes were made, the deficit continued to increase despite good line breaks from Duncan Scott and George Varga, hitting outside shoulders at pace to make significant territorial gains. Good work was undone however as tired Dyce bodies struggled to support breaks leading to turnovers.

A final flurry of tries in the final ten minutes from the Eagles saw them run out easy victors.

FT Kinloss Eagle 68-0 Dyce RFC

Many thanks to the Kinloss Eagles and Falcons for their hospitality, and we look forward to seeking revenge in the return fixture in mid December.

The disappointment of a loss on matchday one can be undone next week as Aberdeenshire 2s visit Central Park on Saturday 2nd Sept, KO 3pm. Join us pitchside to catch all the action.
