First home game of the season doubles as a long-awaited local derby.
This Saturday marks a big moment for Dyce RFC as they host their first home game of the season, welcoming near-neighbours Aberdeen Grammar 2nd XV for what promises to be a fierce local derby.
Dyce will need to dig deep, with injuries and unavailability testing squad depth and giving head coach Jonny Clipston some decisions to make. In the pack, there will be some enforced changes from the Fraserburgh tie but on a brighter note, there’s cause for excitement as Calum Caven is set to make his club debut, adding fresh energy and power to the forward unit.
Grammar arrive with momentum on their side, coming into the derby off the back of two consecutive wins over Peterhead and Huntly. They will provide a stern challenge, boasting form, confidence, and an edge that Dyce will have to match from the first whistle.
Despite the close proximity of the clubs, this is the first meeting between Dyce and Aberdeen Grammar in 12 years, the last coming in 2013.
On that occasion, Grammar came out on top in a close tie finishing 26-24 — Dyce will look tie the series in what is the club's closest local derby in the Caledonia North Region Division 3.
With local derby pride, bragging rights, and early-season momentum all on the line, supporters can expect a competitive and hard-hitting clash this weekend.
