Dyce RFC continued their improvement by scoring three tries in an entertaining loss at Aberdeen Wanderers.
The opening exchanges resulted in four tries, two apiece with the score tied at 14-14 at the end of the opening quarter courtesy of No.9 Dan Gilmore and Gordonian's guest player Mike. Despite kicking two excellent conversions, David Hay forced a long range penalty effort wide trying sneak a three point lead heading into half time.
The score stayed this way for the rest of the half with both teams competing hard for the upper hand.
HT AWRFC 14-14 Dyce RFC
Following the interval, Wanderers started strongly and where encamped in the Dyce 22’ for a considerable length of time, although some was due to a farcical five minutes where the game looked in the balance due to the referee suffering a hamstring injury.
Injury sorted, it took a series of 2nd half Wanderers replacements beyond the 60th minute to break the Dyce defensive line. With fresh legs AWRFC ran in three quick-fire tries resulting from sustained pressure.
Despite a 40-14 point deficit Dyce rallied at the death to score a try, with Alex Duthie crossing the whitewash after Hay, playing at 10, called for the ball to come wide.
The match finished on a sour note for Dyce with club captain Dafydd Jones suffering the re-occurrence of a shoulder injury which looks to have ended his season. The club wishes Daf well with his recovery.
