Dyce faced off in their first game of pre-season against Deeside, newly promoted into Caley 2N, in front of a decent crowd at Central Park.
Although a friendly, the match was hotly contested by both squads from the start with players keen to impress coaches ahead of upcoming league contests.
Deeside’s pace proved to be the decisive factor in the match with the Boars running in four tries. However, Dyce kept focus and battled to the end with the forwards putting the Deeside defence under sustained pressure. From this pressure space opened up for the backs and after some quick hands Dyce’s George Varga crossed the line to score. David Hay converted at full time.
FT Dyce RFC 7:26 Deeside 1st XV
Despite the final score Dyce can take plenty of positives from the match. There were definitive improvements in attitude from the players and an influx of new blood to the club has meant fresh legs can replace tired bodies. Dyce still have some work to put in on the training ground before the new season but the club can go into the 2017/18 season with a degree of confidence and ambition.
